Colorful, Modern Boho Mother's Day Party (2023)

 

Good morning, happy Wednesday! This event and long past relevant, but maybe this theme can be applied to summer events. This year for Mother's Day I did a colorful, boho theme with a mainly complimentary color palette featuring bright blues, orange, yellow, gold and brown. I struggled to come up with a theme and actually choose these colors and this theme when I was inspired by a design on a tee shirt from my church (which had the same font as the calligraphy on my 'Best Mom' sign below). For favors, I used car scent candles and tea bags. The flower balloons (which you may recognize from my past parties, I've re-used them a lot this year) were from Walmart and were around $3 for four, I think. 

Instead of sharing it as a separate post, I went ahead and included a quick Mother's Day gift idea below since it had matched the party. The pictures are pretty self-explanatory and these types of basket fillers might be helpful for birthdays, too. I got the lama/alpaca succulent planter from Ingles, the stickers came from a bulk teacher set I bought on Amazon, and everything else from Dollar General.

Modern Boho Country/Prairie Adult Birthday Party

 Happy Sunday! This is a party I did last month with a modern, bohemian-sort of vibe but loosely themed around Georgia, the countryside, and florals. I was inspired by prairie-themed parties I saw online while searching for ideas. The balloons came from Walmart, the plants came from the thrift store (I found them that same day and was super excited), and everything else I had on hand. I borrowed the broom and angel from my grandparents, who also made the angel food cake.

Fairytale/Book-Themed Art Classroom Tour

 Hey guys, today I have a few photos to share of my easy fairytale book-aesthetic art classroom with an overview of how I made some of the decorations in case you want to make some, too. 

In the bathroom I hung a moss mirror, which I made by simply pulling moss out of our yard and hot-gluing it on. Surprisingly, it stayed green all semester. I used brown Dollar Tree packaging paper to cut out some of the banner and quote shapes, then drew on them with brown markers. The banner was made from old books and fabric strips I cut and tied into tassels (I had the fabric on hand). 

Behind my desk I hung up all of the papers and cards students gave me throughout the semester. On the opposite side by the white board, I created a "quote wall" where I hung up the wise words my students said. My students seemed to really enjoy contributing to the quote wall. I am definitely going to continue that next year. I was given vines for my birthday, so I pinned those around my whiteboard and stuck up golden cardboard stars I made for past events a long time. I have collected lots of fake plants over the years from gifts, sales, and such which I used in both the classroom and bathroom. The banner above my desk was made from thrift store yarn turned into tassels (you just wrap it around a book or something, tie the top and trim the bottom) and wooden Dollar Tree blocks I hot-glued between each tassel. I got pumpkins for later in the fall from a local store that sells new items for cheap, so they were like 10 cents each. I bought the string lights and lamp last year from Walmart and thrift stores. I originally decorated the window but ended up taking it all down. The sign on the door was a moss wreath from a thrift store I tied yellow fabric to. I cut out butterflies from an old book and hot glued them on, along with another brown paper banner. I did not make the bulletin board décor, a super creative and talented colleague designed and made that with a Cricut machine.

Horse & Cat 7th Birthday Party (A Purrfect Party, of C-horse!)

Hey everyone! Just a few days ago we celebrated my cousin Riley's 7th birthday with a unique theme she chose herself: cats and horses! She also wanted an orange party. For this theme, I decided to do a boho-vintage style with subtle oranges and browns as the main colors. The cake was from Ingles. The dishes and books displayed were items I had on hand, with most of the ceramics handmade. I also handmade the giant, wooden box and wooden, hollow rectangle used as stands. The lollipops and candies were super easy: I made them by melting some chocolate chips, mixing in a little water, pouring them into a succulent silicone mold (from Walmart) (that I sprayed with baking spray first to be safe), adding the lollipop sticks, and freezing them. The bouquet consisted of wildflowers and plants from my yard and my grandparents' yard. The little plants on display were mine and my mother's that we had on hand. I made the prize ribbon by cutting and hot-gluing a combination of burlap ribbon and scrapbook papers. I painted a tiger figurine and all of the other cats and horses came from my grandmother. All of my cat statues decided to go missing and I could find nothing to use when my grandmother came to the rescue with perfect small kittens and a horse. I painted the banner with acrylic paint. My mother tied yarn onto the embroidery hoop and I tied on ribbon, then painted the yarn with watered-down acrylic paint to create the bohemian dream-catcher decor. Riley and I agreed on hot chocolate for party favors (which might seem weird for a summer party, but we agreed every day is a great hot chocolate day) and I packaged them in brown paper bags. I decorated those bags with hot-glued or stapled scrapbook paper and doilies, on which I wrote "Thank you for making Riley's party 'purrfect'!" I displayed hanging photos by taping them on yarn that I tied to a wooden dowel. The party did not include half of what I hoped to include, such as the subtle-orange-dyed photo backdrop I started on or a balloon arch. I started putting out a few dishes when I ran by the day before to teach an art lesson, but I basically made everything the morning of (since I accidentally overslept until 3 or 4 a.m. and had to go around 7:00 a.m.) and had like thirty minutes to decorate, so it was super duper last minute despite my best intentions. However, I think my cousin was happy, so I guess it was mission accomplished.
