DIY Girl Lion King (Mufasa) Costume

Hello, everyone! Here is one of the costume tutorials I promised you. I made this at the very last minute, so I didn't take photos of the process. I apologize for that and hope that my instructions make sense. It's very simple to create, and probably takes about two hours. I hope you enjoy!

Materials:

-Three elastic headbands (or alternative elastic bands with the ends sewn together)
-Red felt (about 1 and 1/2 pieces)
-Hot glue gun and sticks
-Scissors
-Brown or black fabric for the skirt (or even better, a skirt already made)
-Gold tulle (I used one roll, but I wish I'd used more. Two or more would be ideal. Also, mine was sparkly and it ended up shedding everywhere.)
-A sewing needle and thread

Step 1.

Cut out skinny strips of red felt.

Step 2.

Heat up your hot glue glun and wrap the bottoms of the red strips around the headband, then glue them in place. Do not glue it to the headband, though. Make sure you can slide it around the headband so that the strips can all fit and be scrunched together.

Step 3.

Sew the skirt to another headband. To do this, sew everything inside out so that the stitches don't show. Then wrap the top rim of the skirt around the headband as you sew without sewing it to the headband so that the skirt fabric can move around the headband, like with the mane you created using the step above.

Step 4.

The hardest part is done! Now take your third headband and tulle. Cut the tulle into equal strips of your desired length.

Step 5.

With each strip, make an arch, with both ends equally aligned. It should look like a long, narrow rainbow. Place this under the elastic headband. Now take the ends of the rainbow/loop with your other hand and make them go up in front of the headband. Then pull the ends through the loop and it should create a knot. Repeat this process until you have enough tulle for your tutu. If this doesn't make sense, there are many (better) tutorials online on how to create a tulle skirt/tutu.

Layer the tulle on top of the skirt. You are finished!

I hope this tutorial was helpful, or at least inspirational. More costume tutorials are on the way!
