Lifestyle Photography Tips for Beginners

Today I'm sharing some lifestyle photography tips for beginners, a form of photography I'm working on improving.

First of all, what is lifestyle photography? I would define it as a type of portrait photography that captures people going about daily activities without posing. It captures genuine expressions and preserves memories. If you want to take lifestyle photos, here are some things you do not want to do:

1. Do not say "cheese!" or pose people. Does your mother cook with a fake smile plastered on her face? Does your cousin pose while trying to play with toys? Probably not.

2. Don't get too much noise in the background. You want pictures taken in a natural environment (the bedroom, kitchen, ect.), but try to blur out the background and avoid capturing toys, clothes and such littered on the floor.

Remember, capture the little things. Brushing teeth, reading books, baking, ect. That's the point of lifestyle photography: to remember and cherish each simple task and pleasure. And simplicity is everything. A lot of the time, it's in black and white (like mine) but it doesn't have to be and isn't always. It's just whatever you envision fitting.

Have fun with your camera!
